    Ms. Holcroft NK Career

Many students at North Kingstown High School associate Ms. Holcroft with the yearbook and senior projects, but her efforts to bring NKHS up to its full potential are much greater than that. She first began student teaching at URI and later taught at North Kingstown High School, with Mrs. Zito as her mentor. Ms. Holcroft says Mrs. Zito “nurtured” her into who she is and built her work ethic. Entering the North Kingstown community was a culture shock for her. She remarked on how polite the students are towards teachers and how they “thank her for class.” Starting her career at 23 years old, Ms. Holcroft feels that transitioning to teaching high schoolers was easier because she could relate to and connect with her students personally. Connecting with her students has always been a priority for her, but she has also made many academic changes this year that she is proud of. Her greatest efforts were towards taking steps to change the senior project program by separating it from the senior English class. Separating the two allows her to focus on helping students develop the skills that are required for life ahead. Ms. Holcroft envisions the future of North Kingstown High School as the foundation for future decisions and as a great place to start. She said, “Have a strong understanding of the past, but prepare for the future.” This means that instead of focusing on past problems, people should pay more attention to what the future holds for the long-term benefit of their students. Ms. Holcroft is a big believer in intentions. She described the Class of 2024 as well-intentioned and resilient. She recalled them being fun to work with and using their education for something valued later in their lives, especially recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic. Whether running the yearbook or helping a student in need, Ms. Holcroft has such a positive effect on NKHS, and North Kingstown cannot wait to see what else she can accomplish!
