Letter to the Editor: Gender-Neutral bathrooms

Kirsten Pratt, grade 10

Recently, the North Kingstown school administration shut down and locked the Gender Neutral bathroom located on the second floor. The bathroom was only open for use for a few school days before it was locked, and more recently all bathrooms in the school have been locked except for two. Now, students who feel more comfortable using the gender neutral bathroom are forced to use bathrooms assigned by gender. These bathrooms on the second floor are constantly crowded and lines are long, making an even more uncomfortable environment. The school should unlock the gender neutral bathroom to create a more comfortable environment for students who don’t feel comfortable using the assigned gender bathrooms. For the school to do this, whoever is destroying the bathroom needs to stop in order for all students to have a better experience.
