Applying for unusual scholarships

If you’re a blue eyed, left handed, vegetarian, who enjoys water polo, there may be a scholarship for you. While the search to find the right college is exciting, students often narrow down their search by ruling out colleges that are too expensive. Instead of limiting your college experience because of expenses, there’s a great way to keep the cost down and still attend your dream school (that is, if you’re accepted).

Scholarships are grants towards tuition awarded to students for meeting a certain standard or showing a certain trait. Scholarships often require a student to complete an activity such as writing an essay, helping in their community, or having good grades. There are many scholarships that students have no idea exist that could contour to them perfectly  without requiring them to excel in intelligence or athleticism. There are scholarships for left handed people, blue eyed people, vegetarian lifestyle people and many more.

Contradicting the usual college scholarships and grants awarded towards students, some may be a bit more strange than you would imagine. Whereas most scholarships target ethnic minorities, women, gifted people, and other student segments to create diversity in the college, these few focus more on unusual traits.

One scholarship awarded by the Vegetarian Resource group grants three $10,000 awards annually. They award students who successfully promote vegetarianism in their community as well as school.

Another scholarship for unusual traits would be the left-handed scholarship awarded to left-handed students enrolled at Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania.

Scholarships are a easy way to get help with your college tuition. Even if you do not have any of these neat traits, you can still qualify for many  scholarships. Scholarships for high SAT scores or GPAs are very common in most colleges. Students who excel in their studies should consider applying for these and submitting their transcripts early.

Other sports-related scholarships reward athletes who play well and maintain average or above average grades. Usually these sports related scholarships have scouts coming to view them and looking to recruit them for their school. Students who play in a sport should try and find out when they are coming and try their best throughout the season.

Scholarships are a great way to bring down your cost of tuition for simply being yourself. There are thousands of different scholarships students don’t even know exist because they don’t bother to research them. Most believe scholarships are out of their reach because they only see scholarships as academic or athletic related, when in actuality there are scholarships out there for anyone.
