WBRU Hosts a Night to Remember: Sleeper Agent, Magic Man, and New Politics play at The MET

New Politics play an amazing set at THE MET.

If you’ve never been to the MET, it’s probably because it’s hidden away in an old mill town in Pawtucket.  However, once you step inside, you automatically realize why so many talented bands play here.  The opening band, Sleeper agent, from Kentucky, was edgy yet incredibly fun.  Their band consists of lead singer Alex Kandle, a more contemporary version of Janis Joplin, Scott Gardner on keyboards, Tony Smith on guitar and vocals, Josh Martin on lead guitar, Lee Williams on bass, and Justin Wilson on drums.  They performed a few of their hits such as “Get it Daddy and “That’s My Baby”.  It was quite interesting to see this band as an opener, considering all three bands that played that night were in the about the same caliber.  They walked on, started jamming, thanked everyone and were very happy to be there.

Following them, Magic Man from Boston came on and grabbed everyone’s attention immediately.  Lead singer Alex Caplow was extremely excited to be performing near their home town.  His singing along with the amazing keyboardist Justine singing sounded great and gave their band great diversity.  They kept the crowd entertained for a large majority of their gig and they never lost energy which was a great quality to see.  They sang a few of their more popular songs including “Texas” and “Waves”.  Additionally, it was very nice to see females in each of the opening bands, because most rock bands now-a-days contain all male members.  Lastly, it was impressive that each of the opening bands remained very humble throughout their shows.  They were constantly thanking WBRU for hosting the concert, and thanking New Politics for allowing them to tour with them.

Finally, the band we had all been waiting for, New Politics, arrived on the stage.  They lit up the room with their energy and it was certainly contagious.    If you do not know who New Politics are, you should most definitely give them a listen because you will not regret it.  Although they only have three members in their band, they sure do put on a show.  They are an alternative rock band from Copenhagen, Denmark and their band consists of David Boyd (lead vocals), along with Soren Hansen (guitar), and Louis Vecchio (drums).  The crowd went crazy when they played their well-known hit songs “Tonight, you’re perfect”, “Harlem”, “Dignity”, and “Yeah yeah yeah”.  They also were keeping their audience constantly energetic and excited by crowd surfing, and when David Boyd showed off his spectacular break dancing skills.  A nice highlight was when they began to cover Justin Timberlake’s “My love”.  Towards the end of their performance, they threw out guitar pics and t-shirts to the crowd which riled everyone up even more.  The concert ended with the crowd flashing cellphone lights and singing along with David.  Overall, WBRU certainly hosted a great concert.  Next time any of these bands come to Rhode Island, I recommend anyone to be in attendance.
