Sweet tea and a sweet time

Wickford’s ‘Sweet Marie’s’ hits the spot

I recently went out to Sweet Marie’s Tea Cottage, a new restaurant in Wickford Village, to try their food and drinks. The experience from start to finish was incredible, regarding service, ambience, and flavor.

Going in, I had a few expectations. From what others who had gone said, it sounded like a pretty elegant and fancy restaurant. Needing to make a reservation beforehand and the strange hours (only from 12 – 2, Thursdays to Sundays) made me confused on what exactly we would be experiencing that day.

From the outside, Sweet Marie’s looks like a cottage out of a fairy tale, and when my party was let inside, we found a charming and warm interior atmosphere.

We were served the Tea of the Day, chamomile tea with sugar cubes and cream, after 12 minutes of waiting. The tea was one of the weaker parts of the meal; having been too sweet and fruity for most of the people I went with.

After about half an hour, we finally received our three-tiered tower of food; the first tier was four different varieties of 16 finger sandwiches; the second was scones and clotted cream; and the third and final tier were desserts, which included lemon cupcakes, macarons, and cookie dough truffles.

The menu was fixed, meaning that everyone in the restaurant had received the same food as us. The food was absolutely delicious, and surprisingly filling.

My favorite items on the menu were the cucumber and cream cheese sandwich, the cheddar and chive scone, and the beautiful lemon cupcake. All of the food was not only delectable but also carefully placed to be picture-perfect. Our tea stayed warm the entire meal.

After a wonderful few hours of enjoying the food and ambience, I finally collected my and everyone else’s ratings of our experience. Despite having to wait for some time for our food, our waitress was lovely and checked up on our table often. The price for food was $26 per person, which was surprisingly low considering everything that we had.

I rate this restaurant a nine out of ten, and highly recommend it for anyone who lives close to Wickford and would like a relaxing meal with friends at a reasonable price.
