Senior athletes – what’s next?

Senior Tristan Loughlin playing lacrosse

This upcoming spring sports season is going to be one to remember. With senior all-stars getting ready to go away to college, they are ready to put their all in on the field as this is their last high school sport season ever. Lacrosse, softball, boys tennis, baseball, track & field,  boys volleyball are all exciting, thrilling sports for athletes and spectators this upcoming season.

Lacrosse senior and captain Tristan Loughlin is very upset as his successful high school lacrosse season is coming to an end. “I am really happy and proud of being a captain this year as I can encourage and teach the underclassmen so they can carry on the legacy!” Loughlin said, “I’m really gonna miss the feeling of going to practice on a beautiful spring day with my best buds and the overall team bond!” He is not sure where he is going to college yet but he will definitely do club or try to walk on if he goes to Providence College. Tristan’s passion and skill for lacrosse is rare and he is excited yet sad to move on in his career.

Tiffany Coble is excited yet upset as well as her last year of throwing is coming to an end and she is getting ready to throw in college. She has competed in indoor and outdoor track all of her high school career and explains how she has grown a lot from this sport. “Although I will miss high school teammates and especially my coach, Jen Chabot, a lot for all she has taught me, I am really looking forward to moving on to a college level competition.” Tiffany enjoys spring sports the best because it is finally getting out of the winter rut and being outside and a part of a team everyday will help her to get through her last months of high school.

Baseball has always been a spring sport favorite here at North Kingstown with lots of fans and excited athletes. Dean Streich, a senior this year, is hoping to become a captain as he has been a loyal member of the team since freshmen year. Next year Dean is carrying on his passion for baseball and attending American International College where he will be a strong team pitcher. Although Dean is sad to leave his high school team and bond behind, he says he will keep his memories with him forever. Dean said, “My favorite part I would say is being on the mound with everyone watching you and the adrenalin of striking someone out.” He will miss his coaches and teammates and keep in mind the lessons he has learned from them as he is getting ready to move on his baseball career.

Spring sports are a special time for athletes but is a specifically bittersweet time for seniors as they approach their last ever team sport as a high schooler. However, Tristan Loughlin, Tiffany Coble, and Dean Streich are just three examples of strong athletes moving on to bigger and better things.
