New year, new coaches
As all athletes know, a coach can be what makes or breaks a team. So when the boys/girls volleyball and boys baseball teams found out they were both getting new coaches with spring sports right around the corner, you can imagine went running through their minds.
The previous head coach of baseball, Kevin Gormley, has recently stepped down. Gormley coached for NKHS since 2003. But with a new season comes new coaches, which is where Steve Breitbach comes into place as the new head coach for NKBB in 2015.
Breitbach, a former long time top assistant and recruiter at the University Of Rhode Island, would most commonly be found at South County’s largest indoor facility, whereas now he will be most likely be found spending time at NK’s very own diamond with the team for their upcoming season.
Stephen Cirella, returning two-year varsity player, said, “It’s going to be different and take a little bit of getting used to with a new coach, but I’m excited for the upcoming season.”
Matthew Boelter, junior, said, “I’m really looking forward to new season and new coach as well. “ Both Cirella and Boelter believe that the team will have a positive overall reaction and welcome their new coach at the best of their ability.
Spike! With the new season approaching for boys volleyball, both the boys and girls volleyball teams found out they were getting new coaches. Boys volleyball went 7-11 for their most recent season and were ranked 14th in the state; girls were 7-10 while ranked 20th for state.
With the boys upcoming season underway, it gives them less time to familiarize themselves with the realization of getting a new coach. “I’m looking forward to the new season, especially with Coach Batsinger. It should be a lot of fun and hard work”, said junior Zack Boettger.
Zack Pedroso, sophomore, said, “I’m pumped!” Pedroso believes that the team will do their best to accept their new coach, but at the same time, the team will miss Coach Joanne Fitts, the old head boys volleyball coach.
