Donating blood is something that everybody should do, and something that people are needed for everyday. With the upcoming blood drive this November, you have the chance to donate the blood that someone needs every two seconds. The record for the most donated blood at one drive was 331 pints, Assistant Principal Donna Sweet mentioned. While speaking about the blood drive, Assistant Principal Donna Sweet explained why it is so important to donate blood. “It takes about three hundred pints of blood a day to keep a healthy pool. Typically people with cancer need blood transfusions. Then there are the natural events that cause a disruption to the blood pool, such as the flu.”
The high school has been doing blood drives for over ten years. Thousands of students, teachers, and citizens have donated over the years. Senior Kailin Diaz had this to comment on her previous experience, “The nurses and staff working the drive were all really nice. They made the experience super easy and stressless. I would definitely do it again”. And even if you cannot donate yourself due to medical issues or are squeamish when it comes to the topic of blood, you can still help the cause. Encourage your friends and family who can donate or help with signing in people on the day of. One pint of blood can save up to three lives, so why not sign up for the next blood drive?
