Ending senior year

“In my opinion, from the beginning of freshmen year it feels like someone takes thousands and thousands of puzzle pieces and just throws them at you,” said Charlie Tregenza in Rachel O’Neill’s senior project video “Senioritis.” “You are left to face experiences and learn from them, what people you want in your life, which relationships are healthy and which ones are not, and somehow get a sense of what you want to be, and how you want to do it,” said Tregenza.“For me things are starting to come together, but there are still thousands of more puzzle pieces to figure out.”

On June 5, all of the seniors at NK will be done with their four years of high school. For her senior project, Rachel O’Neill created a documentary titled “Senioritis.” It contains interviews with seniors from the school, and was presented on March 27 as part of Laura Creese’s film festival.

“I love how we’re all growing up together and preparing to take on the real world together,” said O’Neill on what she likes about being a senior. “But at the same time we’re still stuck in a weird place between childhood and adulthood and that’s what makes senior year frustrating.”

“Senioritis” is a feeling that most seniors experience after being accepted into their colleges, in which they are eager to graduate and little things such as homework and attendance begin to seem unimportant.

“Senioritis to me means that I’ve accomplished four years of high school and I’m finally ready for college,” said senior Alyssa Spencer. “ I experienced a lot this year, especially after I got accepted.” Spencer will be attending URI’s Nursing program next year.

On June 2, both seniors and juniors will be participating in Class Day. Class Day is when the seniors have one last assembly where they reflect on their four years. When the seniors leave the auditorium, the juniors fill in the seats below. After this, juniors now have senior privileges, including sitting in Senior Row and parking in the upper lot. The seniors will be graduating June 5 at the Ryan Center in URI.

“I’m excited for my senior year because its my last year of high school and I am curious to see what college I will be attending,” said junior Reilly Damm. “I am not excited for Senior Project presentations and having to leave my friends after high school.

“I like being older than everyone in the school; if they need to ask for advice on a class or something, I can give them information from my experiences.” – Alyssa Spencer, senior

“My favorite thing about being a senior is knowing that this is my last year of high school.” – Kelly Forward, senior
