Another win for the record books
A roar of cheers takes over the crowd as NK gymnastics sticks the landing on another State Championship and an undefeated season. The feeling is not a new one for the North Kingstown Gymnastics team as they have now won three state championships in the past four years. Taking part in 11 meets in the 2015-2016 season, and winning every single one of them, NK gymnastics has landed another state title.
Proving their dominance this year, NK gymnastics landed an undefeated season, winning a majority of their meets by a landslide. Finishing out her high school career on a positive note, senior Victoria DeRuosi said, “ending my high school career with three state champ titles and an undefeated last season was an incredibly satisfying feeling of knowing the team’s hard work has all paid off.” The success, however, is not a new story to NK as they have now won eighteen state championships, three of which have come in the last four years.
The team proves it has what it takes every year and spends countless hours practicing throughout the week may have the trophies to show, yet they never have the largest fan base. That does not get the hopes of the team down. “Our lack of fan base does not affect the way we perform. The lack of fans motivates us to be successful to prove that although we are out of sight, we should not be out of mind,” said DeRuosi.
The gymnastics team has now won back to back state championships and they are still improving. “The growth of work ethic and success even with little support is inspiring, I will miss the team greatly and I can’t wait to watch them succeed and grow in the future,” DeRuosi said. NK should be equally excited to see what the future holds for the gymnastics team in the next few years.
