A look into the life of NK’s Assistant Athletic Director

Petrucci’s passion is helping athletes

Luke Patterson, Staff Writer

Shawn Petrucci is the Assistant Athletic Director here at North Kingstown. He describes himself as an outgoing, driven, and energetic individual. Right from shaking his hand, his upbeat personality was contagious. Mr. Petrucci wanted to give back to his community and appreciate the high level of athletics at NKHS which ultimately led him to our school, a good show of his character. Here at NK Mr. Petrucci works with athletes in regards to injuries, rehabilitation, assessments of injuries, and injury prevention.

Before deciding on working within the physical fitness world, Petrucci thought about being a police officer or joining his dad in being an electrician. Once he settled on doing something in physical fitness, he initially wanted to be a certified strength conditioning specialist (CSCS) but later felt that he didn’t have a passion for it. Being someone who does whatever he does to the fullest, he went looking for something else. After his wife gave him the idea, he shadowed the athletic trainers at URI, “and it all went from there,” he said. Petrucci is driven, something he even said himself.

Petrucci loves spending time with his family, working in his yard, traveling, skiing and snowboarding, and doing house projects. “I’ve been to probably 35 states in the country,” he said. “I’ve driven across the country twice.” Montana reigns as his favorite place he’s traveled to, but he’s always wanted to go to Ireland, Italy, and Japan, since he’s fascinated by the culture and scenery.

Petrucci is an early bird and spends his mornings relaxing, watching the news, preparing his son’s things for school, and enjoying the peace and quiet of the morning. Petrucci loves binge watching on Netflix and just finished the Dahmer documentary. He loves Breaking Bad and Dexter

Petrucci has a critical role in our school’s athletic department and was a fabulous interviewee.
