Chris Dunlaevy, the former Editor-in-Chief of the school newspaper, has become quite the musician himself, growing a strong passion for writing and composing his own music. Dunlaevy even hints at a future album that will be released soon. Dunlaevy said that his plans “are to be a full-time journalist, but it’s definitely something I’d thought about when I was younger. I think that if it were more stable (and I were more talented) I would definitely go for it.” Journalism has always been a dream for Dunlaevy, but music has always been there to help him along the way. 

Dunlaevy has always been a journalist at heart, even becoming the Editor-in-Chief for the school paper in early 2019. Music has always been there to help him. When life certainly gets really busy, Chris uses music to get him through it. “Music for me is honestly just a hobby, but I think recently I kind of look at it as more of an escape,” he said. “This year has been just so rough and I have dealt with a lot, and I think that because I have trouble opening up to other people, when I write a song or something like that, it can definitely be really cathartic. There’s just something about it that feels very healing to me, and it’s just a nice way to get out everything I’d want to say but can’t.” Music has been more of a tool for Dunlaevy even further helping him express what he can’t in just words.

Dunlaevy has been surrounded by music his whole life. From a young age, his parents brought him to many concerts. He even tried to start a band with a few friends. Dunlaevy began to excel in music over the years, eventually teaching himself how to play the piano and the guitar. He said, “I think I’ve just always kind of been into music, and it’s something I wanted to pursue when I was younger.  I think my biggest inspiration to make music was probably people like John Mayer, who is my musical inspiration.” Artists like John Mayer inspire Chris to get in the art of making music. To him, it’s not his number one path in life. Instead, it’s a way to escape the troubles of everyday life and to create something that can help others as well.
