Are Buccaneers a Super Bowl team with Antonio Brown?
November 12, 2020
Wide receiver Antonio Brownsigned with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Tues., Oct. 27.
With Brown joining quarterback Tom Brady and tight end Rob Gronkowski, some people may make the reasonable guess that they will go to this year’s Super Bowl.
Brown’s first game with the Buccaneers will be their Week 10 game against the Los Angeles Rams, which is a home game for Tampa Bay.
Back in March when Tom Brady announced he was going to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, fans in Tampa rejoiced. They would be getting arguably one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time on their team. Brady previously won six Super Bowls with the New England Patriots
Things got even better when Rob Gronkowski came out of retirement and joined Brady in Tampa Bay. Gronkowski won three out of those six Super Bowls with Tom Brady in New England.
In the 2018-19 season, the Buccaneers had a record of 5-11. In the 2019-20 season, they had a record of 7-9. But now with Brady and Gronk, they have a record of 6-2 so far in the 2020-21 season.
When you add former free agent Antonio Brown into the mix, things just got a lot crazier. Antonio Brown’s pro football career started in 2010 when he was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
He went on to have many accomplishments. In 2011, he became the first player in NFL history to have more than 1000 receiving and returning yards in a single season. Throughout his career, he has been selected to play in the Pro Bowl five times.
Many fans are thrilled to have Brown on the Buccaneers. “I think that the signing could be a spectacular move for the Buccaneers’ offense. Considering how they already have two very talented receivers in Mike Evans and Chris Godwin and a quarterback like Brady back in the pocket, it’s scary to think about how many options he’ll now have to throw to, “ said sophomore Sam Northrup.
When asked how he felt about the signing, sophomore Nolan Young said, “I’m surprised because of everything he’s done in the past three years.”
Young is talking about some of the controversies that have surrounded Brown in his career. Brown nearly struck a 2-year-old boy when he threw furniture off the balcony of his South Florida apartment on October 9, 2018. Brown had also been accused of sexual assault and rape by his trainer Britney Taylor back in September 2019.
While some may think the Buccaneers have a thought of going to the Super Bowl, others think it is too early to call.
Northrup said, “I think that there is a shot of them making it as far as the NFC Championship, but it will be a challenge to defeat their most likely opponent in that game, the Seattle Seahawks. So I am not sure if the Super Bowl is a realistic place for them to end up quite yet.”
The Seattle Seahawks currently have a record of 6-1 this season. So it is reasonable to assume that they will put up quite a fight for the NFC Championship.
Only time will tell if the Buccaneers find themselves competing for the Vince Lombardi trophy this year.
