“The Skipper Café is a student-run café and our students enjoy working it and seeing all their friends as customers,” said Mrs. Sydney Sweeney about the Café. It’s run by special education students and managed by teachers Sweeney and Mrs. Heather Lebel.
At the café, you can buy an assortment of different food items, including things such as cookies, hot chocolate, hot coffee, and iced coffee. As far as the prices go, they’re fairly cheap, with a cookie being 50 cents and coffee and hot chocolate being $1 . The stand also has free sugar packets for people who need a little sweetness added in.
The café has been running for over 12 years now; it started humbly inside room 106, without a ton of traction. But one day, they started selling treats out in the halls. More and more people noticed and bought the food! Today, they are on all three floors; however, there have been some changes. Last year, they had it open every single day of the school week, as of now though, it is only open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. The reason for this change is because, when talking to the administration, they decided that students need to spend more time in their advisory.
The least sold item is most definitely the hot coffee, mostly because of its lack of being on all three floors, said Lebel. The “fan favorite” as Lebel and Sweeney have said, is the cookies by a landslide, selling out the most. Speaking of which, students should be expecting new cookies soon before vacation; be ready with your money because it only comes around the holidays!
