Staff Editorial: Consider signing up for Introduction to Journalism or Newspaper Production CP / Honors
February 15, 2017
When creating your schedule for the 2017-18 school year, please consider signing up for Introduction to Journalism or Newspaper Production.
Although Introduction to Journalism is still being offered this year during the second semester, Newspaper Production, which has been offered at NKHS for several decades, did not run as scheduled this year due to low projected enrollment. Instead, an extracurricular Newspaper Club, which Jacob Maguire is coordinating for his Senior Project, has been producing The Current Wave this year.
Next year, however, North Kingstown High School has an opportunity to bring these courses back. When deciding what classes you would like to sign up for, please consider Introduction to Journalism CP, Newspaper Production CP, or Advanced Newspaper Production Honors.
Introduction to Journalism (#2653) and Newspaper Production (#2663) are available to students in grades 9 – 12, and both are semester-long courses. It should be noted, however, that Newspaper Production CP requires either the successful completion of Introduction to Journalism or the successful completion of 9th grade English. This means that a freshman can take Introduction to Journalism CP in their first semester and Newspaper Production CP in their second semester.
Meanwhile, Advanced Newspaper Production Honors (#2664) is a year-long, honors-level course that will be available to students in grades 10 – 12. It requires the successful completion of Introduction to Journalism and 9th grade English. Students in Advanced Newspaper Production Honors will serve as editors and reporters for The Current Wave, while students in Newspaper Production CP will primarily be reporters.
More information about these courses can be found in the Program of Studies on the NKSD website.
