Places to go: beyond the usual in Rhode Island
With summer now over, looking back on places traveled to, experiences had, and memories with friends made over break; it’s bittersweet to recollect the entirety of summer. Dining for breakfast at Dante’s Kitchen in East Greenwich was a constant trend, as well as spending a sunny day at Narragansett beach. If it was a Friday, a must would be taking the train to Waterplace Park in Providence at night for the WBRU Concert Series under the stars.
However, as the transition into fall and winter has become inevitable with crisp cool winds swirling leaves to the ground and bundled-up attire for the weather outside, the question is, what is there to do now?
Well, there’s always the classic trip to Schartner’s Farm to search for the perfect pumpkin, Narrow Lane Orchard to pick the ripest apples, and a most conclusive end to October with a Trails of Terror excursion.
But, what else? A more unique way to spend the day off, is to take a trip to the RISD art museum in Providence and admire beautiful works of professionals and students alike. Not enough? Afterwards, embark to The Duck and Bunny in Providence for a bite to eat.
If the city isn’t your scene, and you crave adventure along the shores of our beautiful Ocean State, across the bridges in Newport are seal-watching tours sponsored by Save the Bay, from November 14 to April 24.
Sometimes, the inability to recognize the value in what Rhode Island has to offer off season is blinded by the desire for skiing in Vermont, surfing along the coast of California, or just being anywhere but home, because it’s the “usual.” Once in awhile, it is needed to go beyond what’s expected, to discover new ways of experience with friends and create memorable moments. Do not hesitate in the adventure of seeking original enjoyment in the wonderful “smallest state” of Rhode Island.
