Black Friday: Opinions from students
The pros of Black Friday
Black Friday begins the busiest shopping time of the year, the holiday season. With the holiday season comes purchasing gifts for giving and exchanging. If you’re on a tight budget, Black Friday can be the perfect opportunity to purchase gifts at their lowest price, and one that is within your budget.
The term Black Friday began in the 1960’s, when retailers would use red ink to record a profit loss. Since Black Friday is one of the most active shopping days of the year, retailers recorded the profit gain in black ink, hence the term Black Friday. More than 1/3 of American adults go shopping on Black Friday, either at the stores or online. Black Friday doesn’t have to be the stereotypical waiting for hours outside in the cold at 5 a.m experience, you can go later hours or even shop online and still save money.
For a procrastinator like myself, getting an early start on buying presents for the holiday season can result in high quality gift. Also, with a long list of people to gift, I can cut down on the high bill because of the bargains available on Black Friday.
